The new side panel makes it easy to use datasource data based on the default Author.

Note This concerns data that will be placed automatically in the document, based on the default Author. If you want to let the user select a record from a datsource, you will need to do this via the Management Studio. This falls outside the scope of this article.


Follow these steps to automatically place the default Author's data in a document:

  1. Open the desired document or SmartPart from the side panel.
  2. Place the cursor where you want the information to be inserted.
  3. Click on the tab Datasources in the side panel:
  4. Here you see all the available datasources. The datasources are linked to each other. Since we are going to use the information linked to the default author, we must use the Employee datasource. Follow these steps:
  5. Click on the arrow next to the Employee datasource (DXEmployee).
  6. You now see all the datasources that are linked to an employee:
  7. Now look up the information you wish to insert in the document. If that is the employee's phone number, you will use the DirectNumber under DXEmployee (just visible in the image above). But if that is the location phone number, you need to click on the arrow next to LocationId to make all the location records visible and use the phone number listed there. Double click the item to insert the field in the Word document.
